I wrote a check this morning; a big check posted to myself, dated for a year from now today to pay off my mortgage.
This was inspired by my friend, Amethyst Mahoney who spoke about the book, “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne. Read it here: http://positivemagicallife.com/my-law-of-attraction-story
I remember when this book came out several years ago and as Amethyst pointed out there was an incredible amount of hype which surrounded it. Like Amethyst, because of the puffery I steered clear from the book as well as the message.
"Your wish is my command!"
On a deeper level, however, my spiritual teacher had been giving the very same message for years. In Sanskrit this is called, “Matrika Shakti” which is the power of sounds. When sounds are formulated into words, thoughts, etc., they go into the Universe and manifest. My teacher, therefore, has taught seekers to be “mindful” of spoken words and of thoughts. They manifest.
For many years my subconscious way of thinking was that money was hard to come by, took GREAT effort, was easily lost and was acquired only by the greedy as well as hoarded. With that kind of thinking it was no wonder that I rarely had money, right? At any rate, if one considers the law of attraction which is stated in “The Secret” as well as the laws of Matrika Shakti my thinking that money was beyond my reach provided exactly that.
However, over the past several years I have honored my sense of “wealth.” I have taken care of my money. I am not in debt (other than my mortgage) for instance. Unlike the average American my credit card (notice that this is not plural) is paid off and I don’t have many bills. Over the years I’ve worked on my thinking about debt and in doing this it became important to stay “clean.” In other words, debt free, however, presently I also don’t have a “nest egg” and I do have a mortgage that I’d like to pay off.
Once, while at my teacher’s upstate New York Ashram I got a teaching about the Goddess Lakshmi who represents beauty, wealth, love and abundance. I had been raised in a family of boys with a mother who wanted for me to succeed in what my father termed a “Man’s world” therefore my own beauty was often undermined. I was told that it wasn’t important and could hinder being taken seriously. My teacher, however, is one of the most physically beautiful women who I’ve ever seen. She is also intelligent, refined and is One with God. It dawned on me one day that she doesn’t overlook the gift of beauty. It is a part of her like are her arms and she acknowledges this with appreciation which then allows for her to enjoy it.
I got the message about beauty being a part of what is holy for all of us. I needed to also absorb that this is true for money.
These are hard times presently. People are struggling to find jobs, yet, I wonder if this is purposeful in a rush around world. When we stop and instead go inward we give thanks for what we have. We are grateful even for the smallest things in life and with gratitude there is abundance that elicits a flow. Give with the attitude of gratitude and you will receive more~it’s as simple as that.
I wrote a big check this morning to myself to pay off my mortgage and placed it on my alter where a picture of the Goddess Lakshmi sits.
How about you? Do you believe?
